This is particularly true when it comes to the music of Orpheus Britannicus Henry Purcell, who barely lived 36 years; Edward Elgar, the distinguished gentleman-composer of the Victorian and Edwardian eras; and Benjamin Britten, the brilliant British master of the 20th century.
