Capella Savaria is Hungary’s oldest chamber orchestra playing period instruments, founded in 1981 in Szombathely. Its aim is to perform Baroque and Classical music in a contemporary style.
The ensemble was founded by Pál Németh, Zsolt Kalló has been concertmaster since 1992 and artistic director since 1999. Their instruments are originals or copies by 18th century masters. They have made more than 90 records, five of which have won the “Record of the Year” award. Their recordings have been released by prestigious labels and are internationally acclaimed.
They have given numerous concerts in Europe, America and Israel. They were awarded the Liszt Prize in 1991 and the Prima Primissima Prize in 2006. The orchestra was awarded the Liszt Prize in 1991 and in 2006, on the 25th anniversary of their existence, they were awarded the Prima Primissima professional and audience prizes in Vas County. The Canadian Opus Magazine described them as “one of the best orchestras in Europe”.
